Top 5 Conference Tips: Use Social Media to Your Advantage

May 20, 2011

You can attend any conference for free. While, the traditional way would be to buy your way in, there are other ways to get the conference experience.

  1. Follow the conversation on Twitter by streaming the conference hashtag on your social media dashboard like Tweetdeck or Hootsuite.
  2. Follow Twitter-happy attendees, and there are usually at least a handful of them at every conference.
  3. Take part in a conference-related tweet up outside of the conference space to meet up with attendees in an offline environment.
  4. Follow the official and unofficial blogs for updates, videos and reviews on sessions.
  5. Attend the expo. A lot of times, this part of the conference is free. You can see what trends are happening in the industry by just chatting with vendors and fellow like-minded attendees. Then, follow up with them on LinkedIn or Twitter.

Improve Your Emotional Intelligence, Improve Your Business

Presented by Steven Stein, PhD

Presentation Details:
Date: November 19, 2010
Time: 8:30 – 10:00AM ET

Emotions, when used correctly, can make us smarter than intellect alone. Research shows that emotions used wisely make us more effective in the workplace. Emotional intelligence research has shown it to be positively related to teamwork behaviour, job performance, and leadership. The new comprehensive assessment tool – Emotional Intelligence Skills Assessment (EISA) – identifies areas of strength and opportunity and provides a framework for understanding and improving one’s emotional and social functioning. The EISA yields accurate and intuitive results crucial in addressing organizational needs such as leadership development, talent development and retention, change management, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.

Learning Outcomes:

1.  Quickly and accurately measure EI.
2.  Provide a framework for discussion, coaching, and growth.
3.  How understanding EI will help your organization achieve its growth targets.
4.  The five factors of EI : Perceiving, Achieving, Managing, Influencing, Decision Making.
5.  Best practices, new ideas, case studies, and research related to EI.

Could Emotional Intelligence Be Your New Competitive Edge?

Presentation Details:
Date: November 19, 2010
Time: 10:30 am  -  11:30 am ET

Find out how leading organizations such as American Express and the United States Air Force have used MHS’s EQ-i (Emotional Quotient Inventory) to improve performance, save millions and turn themselves into coveted places to work.

In the new economy, human capital is a competitive advantage for organizations. Companies that provide strategic learning opportunities for their workforces will be the most successful in terms of growth, innovation and productivity.

Research from the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) suggests that organizations with targeted learning initiatives outperform their peers in the market, making talent development a bottom line issue. This session will show you how Emotional Intelligence models are used to identify critical determinants of workplace success, supporting and driving talent management initiatives based on these factors.

Learning Outcomes:

  • The direct role that Emotional Intelligence plays in workplace performance at all levels.
  • How organizations determine key aspects of emotional and social functioning of their top talent in order to create targeted learning and development initiatives.
  • How to leverage emotional intelligence models in organizations to maximize ROI.

Holly Hatfield M.Sc. brings expertise in the area of emotional intelligence and its bottom-line impact on selection, development, and leadership initiatives in organizations across a wide range of industries.
